• Mud Tubes: Termites build pencil-sized mud tubes to travel between their colony and food sources. These tubes are typically found on exterior walls, beams, or in crawl spaces.
• Wood Damage: Termites consume wood from the inside out, leaving a thin veneer of wood or paint intact. Look for hollow-sounding wood, blistering wood surfaces, or damaged wood structures.
• Discarded Wings: Swarmers, or reproductive termites, shed their wings after finding a place to establish a new colony. Finding discarded wings near windowsills, doors, or other entry points is a clear sign of infestation.
• Frass (Termite Droppings): Drywood termites leave behind small, pellet-like droppings called frass. These are typically found near the infested wood.
• Swarming Termites: Witnessing a swarm of winged termites, especially near light sources, is a strong indicator of an active infestation.
• Tight-fitting Doors and Windows: Warped wood caused by termite damage can make doors and windows difficult to open or close properly.
• Clicking Sounds: Soldier termites bang their heads against wood or shake their bodies to signal danger to the colony. These sounds can be heard in heavily infested areas.
